It has been a very exciting year in the Kings Local School District so far!
In September, Kings Mills Elementary was named a 2011 National Blue Ribbon School. They were one of only 304 schools nationwide chosen for this award. The Blue Ribbon School Award honors schools throughout the nation that are either academically superior or have made significant improvements in closing the achievement gap to where its students are performing at the highest levels in its state. This is the most prestigious national award and honor that a public school can receive. KME is now the third Blue Ribbon School in the Kings Local School District. J.F. Burns Elementary received this award in 1994, and South Lebanon Elementary received this award in 2009.
The district received another honor in November when it was placed on the College Board’s AP District Honor Roll! The district received this award because of all the work that has gone into increasing the district’s Advanced Placement (AP) offerings, while simultaneously increasing student enrollment in those courses. Kings High School now offers 13 AP courses, 33 honors courses, and 1 class above AP (Multi-Variable Calculus). On average, Ohio school districts with more than 3,000 students offer only seven AP classes. That is below the national average of 8.35 classes. As you can see, Kings is well above the state and national average! We are very proud of the work our students, teachers, and staff have accomplished over the years.
The district’s achievements extend outside of the classroom too. The Kings Knights Men’s Football Team had an undefeated regular season, their first since 2002. This earned them a trip to the OHSAA State Playoffs. The Knights also have the privilege of being the last team to win the FAVC Cardinal Championship. Way to go Knights!
Congratulations also goes out to the Kings Men’s Cross Country team. They finished 3rd place in the Regionals, earning them a trip to the OHSAA State Cross Country Championships. At the State Meet, the boys earned a respectable 16th place.
The Kings Marching Band has had another phenomenal year too. On November 5, they were named the Mid-State Class AAA Band Champions! This is the fourth year in a row that the Kings Band has been named class champion of the Mid-State Band Circuit. Congratulations Band!
