Dr. Valerie BrowningWelcome back to what I’m sure will be another great year at Kings! The staff and administration were busy this summer preparing for the school year. Several new programs are in place this year including all-day Kindergarten in our elementary buildings and the Flexible Credit option at Kings High School.

At Kings we are very proud of our academic success. In August 2010, the District earned an Excellent rating on the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) state and local report cards. Kings is proud that each of our six buildings achieved Excellence for the 2009-10 school year, with Kings Mills Elementary and South Lebanon Elementary earning Excellent with Distinction. This marks ten consecutive years that Kings has earned the ODE report card's highest rating. Congratulations to the Kings staff, students, parents and community on this success!

As we head into the fall election season, I would like to remind everyone that Kings has a renewal levy on the ballot. This permanent improvement levy has been approved every five years since 1990. Passing this renewal will not increase your taxes. This money is important for the district. Over the years we’ve been able to accomplish a lot with it, including maintaining our buildings, adding new technology to the classrooms, completing district-wide air conditioning projects and much more.

District Treasurer Mike Mowery and I will hold a Community Forum at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14, in the Kings Junior High multipurpose room. At this forum we will discuss the permanent improvement fund and why it is so important for the district. We hope to see you there.
