Project Excellence - Excellence in Teaching Educator Award Nomination

The Project Excellence Committee of the Area Progress Council of Warren County, Inc. seeks to recognize and honor innovative or excellent teachers within the public schools in Warren County. They are asking for your assistance in identifying exceptional educators who demonstrate excellence in instruction, or innovative teachers who have pioneered a teaching method. The educator must hold a current teaching certificate and work for the public school system.

Kings Local School’s Newest Board Member—Bill Russell

On Tuesday, Jan. 10, the Kings Local School District Board of Education swore in a new board member, Bill Russell. Mr. Russell was elected to the board of education in November 2011, after Toby Darkins decided not to run for re-election.

Beth Fries - Devoted Wife, Mother, Friend, and Teacher

Beth Fries, beloved 1st grade teacher at J.F. Burns Elementary, passed away on Jan. 1, 2012. Beth is survived by her husband of 31 years, George, and her devoted daughter, Dr. Natalie Fries.

Kings Local School District’s Ilene Besso Earns Prestigious National Board Certification

For the past 14 years Ms. Ilene Besso, 5th grade math teacher at Columbia Elementary, has dedicated her life to teaching. Now, after years of preparation and hard work, Ms. Besso has earned the highest credential available to American educators by becoming a National Board Certified Teacher through the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS).

Inclement Weather Guidelines

Dear Parents and Guardians:

We receive questions every year about the decision to close school and how that decision is made. This year the state will allow districts five calamity days. The decision to close school is made based on what is safe for children and for the staff. That does not change because we have fewer calamity days. Please keep in mind that we have make-up days on our calendar (June 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8). You should plan your summer accordingly.

Thanksgiving Food Drive

The 4th graders at J.F. Burns Elementary worked for a good cause on Monday, Nov. 21, when they boxed up Thanksgiving meals for 25 local families.
