Math Department Philosophy
At Kings High School, the mathematics department strives to further students knowledge of mathematical skills while teaching them to use logic, reason and sound analytical problem solving to not only deal with questions in math, but in life as well.
KJH Connected Math 2
In grades 6-8 the Kings Local School District is using Connected Math 2, which is a standards-based math program that embodies the spirit of the NCTM Principles and Standards for School Mathematics and the constructivist theory of learning. It is a problem-centered curriculum that is focused on inquiry and investigation of key mathematical ideas.
The Principles and Standards for School Mathematics articulate six principles fundamental to high-quality mathematics education: Equity, Curriculum, Teaching, Learning, Assessment and Technology.
The Principles and Standards for School Mathematics describes five content standards or strands of mathematics: Number and Operation, Algebra, Geometry, Measurement, and Data Analysis and Probability. It also describes five process standards: Problem Solving, Reasoning and Proof, Communication, Connections and Representation.
