Grief Counseling and Support Offered

Posted on: July 11, 2021
In loving Memory of Sheryl Kuritar

It is with deep sorrow that we have to share the news of the loss of one of our Kings Junior High School teachers, Mrs. Sheryl Kuritar (formerly Hoover). Mrs. Kuritar passed away suddenly on Thursday, July 8, 2021. She was a 25-year employee of the Kings Local School District and made a huge impact on her students.

Mrs. Kuritar taught eighth-grade social studies and will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. The staff and family at the Kings Local School District extend our heartfelt sympathy to her family, as well as her friends, students, fellow teachers, and support staff.

As we grieve together, know that our foremost focus is on the emotional well-being of our students and staff.  The District has activated our crisis response team and has made arrangements for a team of counselors to be available. Since it is summer and we have limited contact with our students, we are leaving the discussion of informing your child to your discretion as parents.

We suggest that parents be vigilant to their child’s emotional needs during this time. We want to partner with parents and the community to encourage students to talk to someone about the feelings they are experiencing as this is a very important part of the healing and coping process. Here are some resources to guide you when speaking to your child.

The Kings Local School District will offer Grief Support at Kings Junior High School on Monday, July 12 from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. for any staff or student who may need help processing the passing of Mrs. Kuritar.

Our Social-Emotional Health Coordinator, Kim Sellers will be on hand, as well as some of our school counselors, and therapists from our Community Partners from Beech Acres and Warren County Educational Service Center. Our Kings Therapy Dogs, Gily and Raven will be there to help, too.

If you or your child would like to talk to someone about their feelings regarding the passing of Mrs. Kuritar, please feel free to come to KJH tomorrow.

We still don't have final arrangements for Mrs. Kuritar but will pass along any information when we receive it from her family.

Please continue to keep Mrs. Kuritar's family, friends, and colleagues in your thoughts.
