Senior Parents- The College Application Process
Also Military and WorkForce Interested Students

Enlist, Employ, Enroll

Today school counselors hosted a senior class meeting where your student's future plans were discussed.
Whether your student will be applying to college, or looking into careers in the workforce or military,
details and next steps were provided and are also shared here.
This is alot of information. We encourage you to read carefully.
Please keep in mind our school counselors available to help answer student and parent questions.

Lastly, these documents are also always available on our KHS Counseling Website.

UPDATED FAFSA: Change in FAFSA date.
FAFSA usually opens October 1 for students who will be attending college in the Fall of 2024.
Updates are being made to the FAFSA and it won't be available this year until December 1, 2023 or later. We'll provide updates as we get them.
All College Applicants are strongly encouraged to fill out the FAFSA in order to be eligible for federal student aid and also to be eligible for college sponsored merit scholarships.
If you want to start now; each student and one parent will need to create an FSA ID to act as your on-line signature. This can be done if you like. See this link to create an FSA ID now
Colleges promise to be Flexible
Colleges plan to be flexible with their FAFSA deadlines because they're also aware of the changes being made and the change in the roll-out date. See your schools' websites for deadlines.
Important Things to Remember
Each FAFSA is based on the previous year's taxes.
For example the 2022 taxes will be used when filling out the FAFSA in December of 2023 for the 2024/25 school year.
The actual FAFSA Application is created in the student's name, using the student's birthdate and social security number. The student will invite their parent/guardian as a "contributor".
It's important to remember ID's and Passwords b/c the FAFSA will need to be completed each college year in order to be eligible for many Financial Aid opportunities.
After the FAFSA is Complete
  • Each college or university that your student has applied to will go out and "grab" the FAFSA information.
  • They will use it to decide what kind of Grants, Loans and Scholarships to offer your student.
  • Each College will then mail to you or make available on their portal their "Cost of Attendance" statement. This usually happens in the February/March timing but may be delayed this year due to the change in the FAFSA Open date.
